Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. are currently touring with a new show that celebrates the couple’s 40-plus year career in show business
and almost 43-years of marriage. It is a musical tribute to the hits and productions that have made up their multi-faceted careers and will
include various flavors of R&B, Gospel, Jazz and Pop that have influenced them over the years.
McCoo and Davis first met when they were both members of The 5th Dimension in 1965. During their tenure with the group, the charismatic
duo’s instantly recognizable voices helped to make The 5th Dimension one of the Pop era’s most revered vocal groups. They have received
seven Grammy® Awards and earned 15 gold and three platinum records, and enjoyed starring roles on television and stage. They have performed
to sold-out concerts around the world.
The Candlelight performance will include The 5th Dimension hits Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In, Up, Up & Away, Stoned Soul Picnic, Wedding
Bell Blues, Never My Love, and One Last Bell to Answer. “In presenting music from The 5th Dimension, it is really important for us to
recreate the original harmonies of the group that made us stand out when we first began. We have always been proud of its uniqueness,”
McCoo said.
McCoo and Davis decided to leave The 5th Dimension after a decade and established themselves as a duo. They had immediate success with the
single You Don’t Have To Be A Star (To Be In My Show). It was a #1 hit and earned them two Grammy® awards.
McCoo and Davis have also enjoyed solo pursuits. McCoo hosted the popular 1980s television music series, Solid Gold, for 5 years, and
fulfilled one of her lifelong ambitions by appearing on Broadway in the revival of the musical Show Boat, starring in the role of Julie.
Davis realized the lifelong dream of recording a Gospel album with Gospel great, Rev. James Cleveland, and his theatrical accomplishments
include starring roles in Blues in the Night and the hit musical Dreamgirls.
Selections for the show also recognize Marilyn and Billy’s jazz and blues roots. One of Marilyn’s first professional singing jobs was as a
member of a jazz group called the Hi-Fi’s that toured with the legendary Ray Charles. In fact, Ray Charles was their manager and producer.
Billy was born and raised in St. Louis, where he and his father opened a nightclub, which gave him an extraordinary showcase to evolve his
style with the many St. Louis musical influences, including Gospel and the blues.
The material chosen for their performance will also draw from their current interactive music CD, The Many Faces of Love, a collection of
meaningful love songs that came from their era of the ‘60s and ‘70s. The unique interactive features include videos, interviews, bonus
songs, rare photos, links and more.
“We are so thankful that we have been able to realize the dream that we had from our youth to have a career in music and to enjoy so many
levels of success. We want to feature some of those highlights in our show,” Davis said.
