Technical Director – The Candlelight
Job DescriptionThe Technical Director is primarily responsible for supervision and implementation of all technical production elements at The Candlelight used for mainstage productions, concerts, and events. The Technical Director works in collaboration with the Artistic Director to oversee theatrical designers, technical crew, and the implementation of designs from vision to completion. The Technical Director coordinates necessary maintenance of technical equipment and materials, manages technical staff, and supervises coordination of rentals of all scenic and prop elements.
The Candlelight is a non-union dinner theater now entering it’s 16th Season. We produce 5 mainstage musical theater productions per season. Our theater performances run year round. Qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree or greater in technical theater or related field
- Supervisory experience as a Technical Director or Production Manager
- Prefer 3-5 years of experience in technical theater position
- Solid experience with safe, industry-standard rigging practices and hands-on experience building rigging systems. OSHA 30 certified
- Advanced knowledge of theatrical construction techniques, including carpentry, rigging, and metalworking
- The ability to create technical drawings, implement scenery fabrication, and apply arithmetic and geometry to everyday construction problem solving
- The ability to communicate with kindness and clarity, fostering teamwork and a collaborative environment
- Conflict resolution skills – diffusing tension, navigating difficult conversations, mediating resolutions
- Ability to adapt and quickly communicate changes
- Basic competency with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook);
- Ability to develop, plan, and work within budget;
- Great multitasker, attention to detail, hard-working and self-motivated.
- Familiar and adept in Yamaha CL and QL series, ETC Ion light board, and Dante.
- Operation of the lift
- Knowledge of AutoCAD
- Strong Knowledge of engineering fundamentals and experience with their application to non-theoretical problems.
- Comfortable on tall ladders for hanging/focusing light equipment
- Candidate must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds.
- Availability to work nights and weekends when needed.
Compensation: Minimum 55K per year, Negotiable and Commensurate based on experience. Health Insurance Available

Cook
- Must be able to prep food products for line and banquet consumption, using standardized food preparation techniques.
- Wash, peel, cut, and seed vegetables and fruits; clean, and cut meats, poultry, and seafood; stir and strain soups and sauces, etc.
- Weigh and measure designated ingredients.
- Date all food containers and rotate as per the SOP, making sure perishables are kept at proper temperatures.
- Store foods in designated areas, utilizing knowledge of temperature requirements and food spoilage. Maintain sanitary regulations of food temperatures. Rotate all products.
- Maintain work area, including all counter tops, utensils, equipment, garbage, and refrigeration in a clean and sanitary condition in accordance with state, county, and company health regulations and work safety regulations.

Dishwasher/Prep Cook
Position: Dishwasher
Summary: To maintain dish area, equipment, and chemicals. Maintain clean and sanitized kitchen utensils and service ware. Candlelight Dinner Playhouse is a dinner theater located in Johnstown, CO. Hours would typically be Thursday-Sun until we increase out business to be open more days a week.
Current PayScale: $15 starting wage/$16 after 1 year/$17 after 2 years. Dishwashers who show motivation and can work fast-paced will have the opportunity to be trained as cooks as positions arise. This is a great entry level position if you would like to eventually learn to cook.
Job Responsibilities:
- Wash pots, pans, and other cooking equipment by hand while following proper ware washing techniques.
- Scrape food from dirty dishes and place them in dish racks. Wash all utensils, glassware and dishware, and store correctly.
- Sort and remove trash and garbage to dumpster.
- Sort and stock clean glassware, utensils, and dishware.
- Ensure the work area and equipment stay clean throughout shift.
- Change dish machine chemicals, water, and three compartment sink, as needed.
- Wash/mop variety of work areas (e.g., tables, walls, refrigerators, floor, etc.) throughout shift.
- Work closely and communicate with BOH and FOH Team Members, in a high pace environment
- May be cross trained into other BOH positions.
- Other functions as assigned by management.

Food Runner / Busser
Position: Food Runner / Busser
Job Description:
Candlelight Dinner Playhouse is a professional theatre dedicated to preserving and cultivating the tradition of American Musical Theatre, while providing an extraordinary entertainment experience. Candlelight is proud to offer Broadway musicals showcasing the best of regional talent, accented with an elegant dining experience. We are looking for Bussers to join our team! Busser responsibilities include setting tables, serving food orders, and removing used dishes and utensils. If you’d like to gain experience in the restaurant industry and learn how to provide an excellent dining experience, we’d like to meet you. To be considered for this role, you should be available to work various shifts, including weekends. Ultimately, you will ensure our guests have a high-quality dining experience by serving their food in a timely and accurate manner.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver food orders from the kitchen to customers’ tables rapidly and accurately
- Act as the contact point between guests and the kitchen
- Assist the wait staff with table setting by placing appropriate tableware, eating utensils, and napkins
- Serve starter salads upon guests’ arrival
- Check-in with customers and take additional orders or refill drinks, as needed
- Remove dirty dishes and utensils
- Answer guests’ questions about menu items
- Inform restaurant staff about customers’ feedback or requests (e.g. when they ask for the check)
- Make sure families with young children get kids’ menus
Skills:
- Ability to learn and uphold hygiene and food safety rules
- Physical ability and stamina to carry heavy trays and stand for long hours

Sound Board Operator
Position: Sound Board Operator Needed Immediately
Job Description:
- Description: Under the direction of the Technical Director, the sound board operator live mixes our musical theater productions. The Candlelight produces year round non-union musical theater productions, generally including five theatrical productions per season.
- Performances: Performances are generally Thursday thru Sunday, with two performances on Saturdays. Additional performances can be added by the producer with two weeks notice. Full production calendars available upon request. This position can cover all shows or can be split with another sound board operator.
- Qualifications: Knowledge of the Yamaha console family, especially the QL5, is required. Knowledge of Dante and Mainstage is recommended. Experience running a console in a large musical setting and capable of mixing body mics, band, sound effects, and more. Must have trouble shooting skills.

Master Electrician
Description: Under the supervision of the Technical Director, Master Electrician is responsible for all light hangs, execution of light design as provided by designers, board operations, supervision of spot operators and maintenance of equipment. The Candlelight produces year round non-union musical theater productions as well as additional concerts, events, and educational performances.

- Light board operator for performances
- Responsible for all light hangs, execution of light design as provided and in collaboration with lighting designers, board operations, run and strike of the show.
- Supervises all lighting change overs and maintains and supervises the repair of lighting inventory.
- Serves as chief light board operator and trains spot operators for each show.
- Coordinates lighting plots for incoming shows and troubleshoots theater lighting equipment and safety.
- Adheres to Candlelight production department policies and procedures as set forth in the Operations Handbook.
Experience and Education: Prior experience as a Master Electrician/Lighting Designer; prefer college degree in relative field. Familiarity to the ETC Ion.

Scenic Painter
Description: Under the direction of the Technical Director, scenic painter is responsible for the execution
of paint artistry in collaboration with the Set Designer per production.
The Candlelight produces year round non-union musical theater productions, generally including five
theatrical set builds per season.
These examples do not include all the duties which may be assigned; any one position may not include all the duties listed.
- Collaborates with Technical Director, Set Designer, and Master Carpenter to execute the paint artistic vision of the set designer per each theatrical production. Generally five musical theater productions are produced per season.
- Participates in production meetings as determined by the Technical Director
- During tech week, scenic painting is project based and hours are irregular, must be able to meet deadlines for production needs as set up by Technical Director
- Works in collaboration with the Master Carpenter and Tech Director in regards to hours in the shop based on the build schedule, can be flexible
- May include opportunity to assist in carpentry within the scene shop and under the supervision of Master Carpenter
Experience and Education: Prefer college theatrical painting experience and degree OR a combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skill, and artistry.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience and show needs. Salary ranges from $1,000 to $2,500 per show.
Carpenters
